Mela started its operation from May 2001 add within this time
it has achieved the position of one of best-branded cloth showroom of handloom
in the town.
The concept of Banglar Mela was to prove that, it is possible to
create panoramic designs of cloths by using local and traditional fabrics.
And to promote them in the market with a reasonable price. And till now,
they execute their operation according to their philosophy.
Their first showroom was established in Banani and 2nd in Mirpur.
Apart from their business activity, a very appreciable thing about Banglar
Mela is
with their occupation they have also maintain their social responsibility
and awareness as a human and as worthy citizens of the country. And they
proved it by their remarkably done social activities.
Such as from the very beginning, in their organization they have involved
mentally retarded individuals and have given them the opportunity to work
and to earn like every normal human being. And has also helped them to change
their view of life
and also the idea towards these mentally retarded people who are unfortunately
thought of no use in the society. Not only this, the products made by these
individuals are also sold in Banglar Mela.
With this, on their first anniversary they distributed plants to every guests,
with a notion of "Let us bring back greenery" and on this day Banglar Mela
discussed
about the ways to enhance the environment of the country.
And they also awarded the "Banglar Mela Award" to Shree Kushnath Das, a
weaver from Chapainawabgang for his achievement in improving the quality
of silk fabric.
And in this year "Banglar Mela Award” awarded Shree Arun Guha, for his continuous
effort for keeping the ‘Khadi’ trend breathing.
In its every anniversary Banglar Mela tries to honour the gifted handcrafters
across the country. And by doing this Banglar Mela has earned enormous amount
of respect from its well wisher.
As far as their operations are concerned, it is not limited within Dhaka.
Apart from Dhaka Banglar Mela has worked and shared their ideas and concept
with the producers and the artisans of Bogura, Narayangong, Chapai, Rangpur,
Chittagong, Potuakhali and Comilla. And has also maintained their liaison
with their production unit also.
By doing this Banglar Mela has provided new concept to regional producers
and artisans, which has contributed to uplift the status of handicraft in
the country and has also helped the local fabrics to reach its highest possible
level with in the country. And their idea of missing regional-urban designed
production has created a perfect blend of fusion to create distinguished
design and demand for the craft.
The third showroom of Banglar Mela is located in Dhanmondi, Mirpur Road,
under Hotel Nid-Mahal. A beautiful air-conditioned atmosphere in which there
is a presence of variety of exclusive cloths made by local fabrics.
For male, there are various kinds of Fotua, Shirt and Punjabi. For Female
there are eye-catching newly designed sarees, and fusionizid traditional
outfit, which will definitely be a hit with in young generation girls. And
for children also there is presence of beautiful and colorful designed cloth.
Their newly introduced items are household items like bed covers, cushion
cover, Thans of ‘Bunon’ and ‘Printed’ cloths and blouse pieces. And their
special attraction is terracotta items.
And at last, but not the least the ash colour with a blend of red and black
and the chemistry of wrought iron with traditional taat frame has created
a marvelous surrounding inside the showroom and has already created its
appeal with in the customers for its prefect shopping atmosphere and quality
of its clothes.
